 Riverview
exists as a collection of communities South of Brandon. Although
Riverview is not a city, its roots date back to the mid 1800's,
and the historical properties that still stand serve as a reminder
of a simpler time.
Riverview was founded in 1856 on the Alafia's south shores. It
was originally known as "Peru," a Spanish word which translates
to "straight place in the river." The Moody family was one of the
first groups of settlers to inhabit
the Riverview area, built in 1896 and purchased by the grandson
of Riverview's first pioneer, Benjamin Moody in 1902, the Moody
house still stands today and remains a historical landmark nestled
in the middle of an exquisite area. In addition to the Moody house,
the Alafia River provides an amazing source of wonder and entertainment.
From the ancient Native American term meaning "River of Fire," the
Alafia River at one point contained so many strains of phosphorous,
