 Valrico
is a community that first began development in the early 1900s.
Valrico was originally established as an agricultural community,
with major exports in cotton and citrus. Many of the town's original
residents were employed either in the citrus or cotton industry.
Long Pond, as Valrico was originally named, was largely a region
of cotton plantations until the arrival of the Florida Central and
Penninsular Railroad in 1890, which brought many new residents to
the area. Eventually, the name of the area was changed from Long
Pond to Valrico, the Spanish
term for "Valley of Gold." The first major building to be constructed
in the area was the Valrico Baptist Church, in 1915. Later this
would be renamed the First Baptist Church, an establishment that
has had many renovations and still fully functions today after nearly
a century. By the 1980s, population in the Valrico area began to
rapidly expand. With the beautiful scenery and wide variety of features
available, Valrico is the ideal community for anyone!
